Event Recap/Ala Moana Bowls/4 min read

Our latest rider just had a crazy two-day run at Bowls. Ezra Clark lit up the Local Motion Surf Into Summer QS with the best single score of Day 1, pushed into Finals Day, and finished with a quarterfinal appearance while getting featured across WSL and Surfline coverage.

In pumping eight-to-ten foot Big Bowl conditions, Ezra looked right at home. WSL called out the East side standout after he backdoored one of the day's heaviest barrels for a 9.25 — the best single score posted on opening day — and backed it up with a 15.25 heat total to move on.

He followed it up by taking on a stacked Round of 64 heat and putting together a 16.40 total to surge into Finals Day, eventually making the quarterfinals in his first QS at Ala Moana Bowls. Heavy conditions, big names, no easy heats — Ezra still found a way through.

“I surf this wave almost every morning… there’s no easy heats in this contest, so it feels good to come out on top of another one.”

Bowls during contest week — South Shore energy, city backdrop, and Ezra locked in.

WSL’s coverage singled out exactly what made the run stand out: comfort in consequence, patience through the lulls, and the confidence to wait for the one that mattered. That 9.25 wasn’t just a number — it was proof Ezra belongs in that arena.

For us, this is the kind of moment Field Notes is built for. Not just results, but the in-between: the calm before heats, the resets on the grass, the walk down the rocks, and the work it takes to turn a heavy event into a breakout statement.

Quarterfinal finish, major coverage, and a heavy reminder of what Ezra can do when Bowls turns on. Just getting started.
